HOO’s Tales is a week-long international storytelling carnival that is being organized by Hippocampus – the reading library. Established by Mr. Umesh Malhotra, a former IIT graduate. Hippocampus recognizes that reading amongst children is a dying habit and therefore, the need to inculcate and re-instate greater acceptance to this habit by blending the fun element. Thus HOO’s Tales brings stories to life by bringing together story tellers and artists of repute and allowing their performances to revive the long forgotten magic of reading stories.

International storytellers like Craig Jenkins or our very own and much loved Jeeva Raghunath will be seen enthralling the audiences with their stories alongside intriguing cultural performances like the Yakshagana, Katkatha Puppet Theatre to name a few. The event aims to promote a healthy mix of genres and performance styles, both national and international. The idea is to introduce children to a variety of stories with an objective to inspire children to read and for parents & teachers to adopt ‘reading’ as an important learning tool. HOO’s Tales is spread across Bangalore and Chennai from February 20, 2010 till February 27, 2010. In Bangalore, the festival is happening in various places like Bal Haven, Opus, British Council Alliance De Francais and other venues of public interest. In Chennai, the festival is happening in various places like the Russian Cultural Centre, Shivagami Pettachi Auditorium and Nageshwar Rao Park.

This year, Hoo’s Tales brings you an omnibus of storytellers from the UK, Germany, Singapore, and India…  …each spreading the magic of stories through their individual styles with performances, workshops and stories to go for children and adults.

தர்ம சங்கடமான நிலை

எம்.சி.எ பட்டப் படிப்பு (M.C.A.) அல்லது பொறியாளர்(B.E / M.E) பட்டப் படிப்பு முடித்து சென்னையில், பெங்களூரில், ஹைதராபாத்தில் வேலை தேடி அலைந்த அனுபவம் பெரும்பாலான மக்களுக்கு உண்டு. அகவே யாராவது வேலை வேண்டியோ அல்லது ப்ராஜெக்ட் கேட்டோ என்னிடம் வந்தால் முடிந்தவரை உதவுவது என்னுடைய வழக்கம்.

நண்பர்கள் மூலமாகவோ அல்லது சொந்தகாரர்கள் மூலமாகவோ இவர்களுக்கு நம்முடைய விலாசமும் அறிமுகமும் கிடைத்துவிடுவது வாடிக்கையான ஒன்று.

என்னுடைய கல்லூரி நண்பனின் (Friend-I) சொந்தக்காரர் ஒருவர் (Friend of friend – FoF) இறுதியாண்டு ப்ராஜெக்ட் கேட்டு வந்தார். நண்பரும் கூட வந்திருந்தார். நானும் அவருடைய ரெசுயும் (Resume) பார்த்துவிட்டு …ஒரு சில நண்பர்களின் அலுவலகங்களுக்கு மின்னஞ்சல்(e-mail) அனுப்பினேன். என்னுடைய நெடுநாள் நண்பர்(Friend-II) ஒருவர் ப்ராஜெக்ட் தர முன்வந்தார். ஏற்கனவே இந்த நண்பர் எனக்காக பல கல்லூரி மாணவர்களுக்கு உதவயுள்ளர்.

முதல் நாள் நான் அவர்களுடன் சென்று என்னுடைய நண்பனை அறிமுகம் செய்து … பின்பு அவருடைய சொந்தக்காரரையும் அறிமுகம் செய்து வைத்தேன். அதன் பிறகு நான் அந்த புதிய நபரை பார்க்கவே இல்லை. என் நண்பன் ஒருமுறை தொலைபேசியில் அழைத்து .. ப்ராஜெக்ட் கொடுத்த நண்பருக்கு ஒரு சின்ன விருந்து கொடுக்க வேண்டும் என நினைத்தார். ஆனால் எங்கள் இருவருடை அலுவலக வேலை காரணமாக … செல்ல முடியவில்லை. அதன் பிறகு நான் அந்த நண்பரின் நண்பரை (FoF) மறந்தே போனேன்.

சில தினங்களுக்கு முன், என்னுடைய நண்பனிடமிருந்து ஒரு தலை பேசி அழைப்பு வந்தது. அவர் சொன்னார், நண்பரின் நண்பர்(FoF) அதே அலுவலகத்தில் வேலைக்குச் சேர்ந்ததாகவும், சிலமாதங்கள் வேலைக்குப் போனதாகவும், ஒரு சின்ன பிரச்சனை காரணமாக அவரை வேலையே விட்டு நீக்கி விட்டுவிட்டதாகவும், அந்த மாதத்தில் வேலை பார்த்த தினங்களுக்கு சம்பளம் தரவில்லை என்றும், எக்ஸ்பிரியன்ஸ் சான்றிதல் தரமருப்பதகவும் கூறினார்.

என்ன விஷயம்?  என கேட்டதற்கு .. நண்பன் சொன்னார் … நண்பரின் நண்பன் .. ஒரு விடுமுறை நாளில் நேர்முகத்தேர்வு சென்றதாகவும், அதை யாரோ பார்த்து சொல்லிவிட்டதால் வேலையே விட்டு நிறுத்தி விட்டடாதகவும் சொன்னார்.  சம்பளம் போனால் போகட்டும் , எக்ஸ்பிரியன்ஸ் சான்றிதல் (experience certificate) மட்டுமாவது வங்கிக் கொடு என்று கேட்டார்.  வேலை கொடுத்த நண்பரோ … இதுவரை என்னிடம் எந்த குறையும் சொல்லவில்லை.  … செய்வதறியாது விழிக்கிறேன் ?

From நிஜ முறம் to பிளாஸ்டிக் முறம்

Plastic muram முறம் (அல்லது சுளகு, சொலவு)

முறம் (அல்லது சுளகு, சொலவு) என்பது தானியங்களை உமி, கல் , குச்சி   போன்ற பொருட்களை   பிரித்தெடுக்க உதவும்  ஒரு  கருவியாகும்.  தமிழக கிராமப்புரங்கள்  மட்டும் அல்லாமல், நகரங்களிலும் இப்பொழுது இந்த முரதினை பயன்படுத்துகிறார்கள்.  சென்ற வாரம் தியாகராய  நகரில் உள்ள சரவணா கடையில் பிளாஸ்டிக் முறத்தினை பார்த்தேன். என்னதான் அழகான வண்ணங்களில் இருந்தாலும், நிஜ முறம் போன்று இல்லை.

முறத்தின்  பயன்பாடுகள்

1. சிறு சிறு கற்களை நீக்க
2. சிறு சிறு தூசிகளை நீக்க
3. கருவாடு காயவைக்க
4. வடகம் காயவைக்க
5. கீரை இலைகளை ஆயும்போது
6. தானியங்களை காயவைக்க
7. அறுவடையின்போது தூசிகளை விரட்டியடிக்க
8. பலகாரங்களை அடுக்கி வைக்க
