After a long gap, Manikandan (Dooman – டூமன்) called me regarding our friends meeting. He was talking about the cricket schedules. He picked me on last Saturday around 6:30 a.m near Axis Bank, Madippakam.

We reached the open ground near chennai Airport, and Thirisool railway station. When we reached there, I was amazed by the number of teams playing in that ground. Most the area were covered with fielders. Some of the players were shouting, bowling, batting, and fielding.

You could clearly see this ground exactly opposite to the Chennai Airport. One guy was standing in front of the stemp and asking most of us to bowl to him as trial deliveries. When the whole gang is divided into two team some of them were started practising bowling and others batting. The funniest part is nobody will try to play a defensive short. Every bats man will try to hit the ball as hard as anything. They wanted to clear the boundary marks.

Regardless of your batting side or fielding side you have field for both sides because to fulfill the number of team as eleven. If your side is a batting side you have to umpire the game, the keeper is also from your team and most of the off-side fielding is from the batting side. We can see different age group of people  playing cricket in the same ground.

super fielder - desinged to run

super fielder - designed for run

The boy who is standing here is our friend. We called him as ‘ the super fielder’ of that day.  We criticized this guy, because he missed all the balls. He ran fast to catch the ball but never catch it. He wore a t-shirt with a slogan “Designed for run”.(good fielder!……)

When the teams were finalized, the opponent team own the toss and elected to bat first. On of the guy from infy was irritating the bowlers by  getting down from the pitch. After three overs  they decided to give the ball to me to bowl. My over ended up like this.(0/1/w/1/4/0) – I gave six runs and got a wicket. The total of the opponent team was 54 in 8 overs. Some of my team members quarreled for the opening innings because they didn’t get a chance to bowl.

I got a chance to bat as a third down bats man. With in two overs i hit two fours and a six. The match got over when we reached the winning runs. In the second match I hit 3×4, 1×6. It was a nice feeling after a long time .  Still I am wondering how people with more than five teams are playing in such a small ground.  Some times ball  hit some other team member. Some of the teams were in their uniforms.

  1. Chennai guys love tennis cricket.
  2. They were strong in leg side.
  3. If you bowl a over pitch or full toss definitely they will hit it to six / four
  4. We get them out by bowing good length deliveries
  5. If they were not able to score for three or four ball, the other team members shout and make him out easily.

Important Notes:

  1. we have to carry extra balls
  2. we have to carry enough water
  3. we have to carry a hat/cap

After the match some were selling ice and ice-creams. One of our friend bought a sack full of water packets. Two of our guy  were sponsoring for ice and ice-creams. We returned to our places with great joy.
